EDUCATION FOR YOUTH
What is SSHR?
Smorgon society of human rights
(SSHR)- non-governmental, non for profit organisation which was
founded in 1996 and stands for:
- teaching, promoting and
protecting children and human rights within 33 primary
and secondary schools and in the curriculum as well
- it's purpose is to promote
and co-ordinate development , human rights education in
the Youth sector .
SSHR major guiding principles
of education policy:
- an international dimension
and global perspective in education in all its forms
- understanding and respect for
all peoples , their cultures and ways of life
- ability to communicate with
others after more then seventy years of totalitarism
- understanding for
International solidarity and co-operation
- readiness to participate in
solving problemsof our community , country and the world
at large
Here are a few of our major
activities:
- annual competitions among 33
primary and seconadry schools in drawings , posters ,
essays in the field of children and human rights in
co-operation with UNICEF mission in Belarus
- seminars for teachers ,
social workers and Youth leaders about human rights
issues , active and participative pedagogical approach in
co-operation with "Human rights in the curriculum
" ( Ms. M.Brown -UK)
- workshops for youth leaders
in human rights education, social activities in this
field
- round table for local
authorities and principals on human rights documents and
human rights issues in co-operation with OSCE mission in
Belarus
- produces relevant youth
-centred human rights materials, manuals on issues of
justice ,local and global co-operation and solidarity
with NGO's from all over the world
- round table with
representatives from Latvian Parlament concerning
minority rights in Latvia
Recent events organised by
SSHR:
- two years experiment about
human rights education , democracy values and
International humanitarian law in co-operation with
Ministry of Education Republic of Belarus
- radio and broadcasts
concerning human rights documents
- manual for social workers and
teachers about human rights education, pedagogical
innovations and new methods of teaching human rights
- peer education programme for
students on human rights education
- exibitions ,human and
children rights actions within schools and in the
curriculum as well
